Online Shopping

When you live in a smaller city like Nanaimo your camera shopping choices are pretty limited. Tomorrow I'm heading over to Vancouver for work so I plan on hitting a couple of their shops while I'm there, but usually I'm shopping online as the selection of camera gear locally is pretty dismal.

Anyway, online shopping has its ups and downs. Customer service is usually pretty bad, but recently I've had great service from a small company called Flash Zebra. Great meaning they promptly sent me what I ordered for a fair price, it was high quality that's it. This company specializes in off camera flash solutions, so if you are in the market for the Strobist stuff I can't recommend them enough.

Meanwhile I ordered a few things from one of Canada's biggest online camera retailers a month ago. On their site they listed everything as in stock, but four times they have emailed now saying the items are back ordered. Now they've completely stopped emailing. Now I've bought from this company before and I know they will deliver, but the fact that their emails always end with "Thank-you for your business, customer service is our number one priority" has me irked. The last time I ordered from them they promised free shipping then promptly emailed saying that the item was too big and I would have to pay over $100 for shipping. I'm not going to say which retailer it is (starts with a V, ends with a K and I'll let you figure out the four letters in between), but honestly I would have been better hopping on the ferry and going to Vancouver. It would have saved me time and money.

Anyway, service is what gets you remembered and has customers coming back time and time again. I hope Vivid can always live up to that motto, it will certainly be my intent. I've added a link to Flash Zebra for anyone that wants to check them out.
