November 1, 2008

Vivid 0pens November 1, 2008! We have our business license, have registered with the friendly tax people....its all good. Having said that we are pretty busy right now as well. We will be shooting photos at Maple Tree Montessori School, have two family bookings, the Quantom Leap Conference and the MISTIC Awards booked within the next couple weeks. This last weekend I photographed the SWAN Open Mic night which was fun and the Victoria Marathon. I'm not sure about Adam, but he feeling of anticipation of actually being in business is pretty intense.

Short blog this time but will send out best wishes to Ryan Mennie, a good friend of mine running for city council in Campbell River. His wife is a professional photographer up there and you can see her website here. Hope you get elected Ryan, Campbell River couldn't do better. We have our federal and municipal elections coming up right away. I was listening to a podcast of a photographer that shot at the Democratic and Republican conventions in the USA. That political stage photography sounds sort of exciting, I'd like to give it a try sometime.

I'll leave with a photo from the SWAN event. Second time I've worked with them and they are a great group. You can really see their events coming together better and better each time they do one. I shot with my new Lumiquest flash softbox (loved it) on a corded off camera flash as well as at 1600 ISO without flash. The graininess of the photos at that ISO really appealed to me for this event. Sort of reminded me of old time band photos. Normally I steer away from that ISO with my L1, but I'd use it again in a heartbeat with this type of event.
